Sleep Deprivation

Jeffrey Meade-Sleep Deprivation Patient-"My every waking thought was preoccupied with how am I going to get to sleep."

Jeffrey Meade suffers from severe insomnia. He's hardly alone. About one third of Americans deal with sleep deprivation at sometime in their lives.

Meade- "The clincher came one morning, I needed help."

Dr. Timothy Hsu from the Providence Hospital Sleep Center says you don't have to be diagnosed with insomnia to know what a nightmare a good night's sleep can be.

But the good news is there is plenty you can do to get a more restful night's sleep.

1)Avoid rigorous exercise at least six hours before bed time.
2)Keep the same routine. Wake-up and go to bed at the same time each night.
3)And don't drink alcohol before bed. It might help you fall asleep, but you won't likely stay asleep.

Dr. Hsu-"I think ideally not overloading one's schedule is the best way to get some good sleep.

And ironically, experts say the less you care about how much sleep you get the greater your chances of a restful night.

Meade-"You have to go, eh, it's no problem.. mean quite so much.'

So relax, get comfortable and good night
