Previous Story Memory Suzanne Gaynor- "I was concerned, because I wasn't remembering things that uh, I used to be able to remember." At 56, Suzanne Gaynor was worried about her memory. So she enrolled in a memory enhancement program. Cynthia Green runs the class. Green- "If we train ourselves, to pay better attention and to focus on information that we're trying to learn, we're going to remember it better." Memory problems at all ages can be caused by fatigue, medication, alcohol, caffeine, and emotional distress. Green- "I think that there's a button that goes off in people when they turn 10, that the same memory lapses they may have had when they were 45, starts to bother them more." Here are a few tips to help remember a name... first make sure you listen to the name. Then practice the name in the conversation. Spell the name to yourself. Connect it to something familiar that you already know. If you can, create a visual image of the name, or try to find something about the person's fact that reminds you of the name. Green- "And sometimes you just need to give yourself a break, chances are, they don't remember your name either." Remember Suzanne? Her problems were caused by
medication, so she changed her prescription. If you're having serious memory
problems, consult your doctor to find the cause. Home | Upcoming Stories | Previous Stories |Survey | About Healthy Living | E-Mail
