Holiday Diabetes

Tonight when many of you will be counting your presents.. some will be counting their calories? For Tina Belcher.. this is the most tempting time of the year.

Tina Belcher/Diabetes patient- "Chicken, homemade biscuits, rolls, dressing, macaroni and cheese. my grandma loves to cook pies, banana pudding, anything you name it she cooks." Diabetes put Tina in the hospital many a times..

Tina-"I fainted in the room. And I woke up two days later.. I found out I had diabetes."

So while others can let loose and indulge.. for Tina Christmas means caution.

Tina-"Just can't have it nothing else I can do about it."

Dr. Scott Jacober-DMC/"The stress, the availability of food.. that's exactly what's going on."

While holiday cookies, cakes and pies can send a diabetics blood sugar soaring.. overloading on other foods like bread, potatoes, fruit and even vegetables can be just as dangerous.

Dr.Jacober-"Carbohydrates get all broken down into sugar..the blood sugar itself."

Alcohol is another pitfall, a few beers can be just as harmful as a few pieces of bread when it comes to glucose levels. So for diabetics this holiday season Doctor Jacober prescribes moderation and sticking to your usual eating routine.

When you're at a party instead of loading up on excess food.. try loading up on the good time instead.

Tina-"Going to parties can be a lot of fun.. enjoy yourself.. outside of eating."

Tina-"I take it one day at a time.. keep in under control."
